And the winner is...
Thanksgiving has come and gone and it's time to announce the winner of our Free Lodging (4 nights) stay at Quinta Oasis.
Our winner is Elaine (she asked that we only use her first name) from Connecticut, USA. Elaine tells me that she welcomes a warm weather stay as an escape from the frigid temperatures of the northeast USA. She's planning to come the end of February. Congratulations Elaine!
What's New at Quinta Oasis
Each day brings something new here at Quinta Oasis. We're always adding touches, making plans, meeting people and contributing to our community here in Rio Chico. All the while, the fruit trees are growing and the seasons are gradually changing here too. I'm looking forward to the sunshine and amazing sunsets that come between December and March.
Let's catch you up on a few things. First....
The Pool is in!
We're so excited about this upper level. This is where everything happens, where you go to relax and also to meet new people and hang out. We've already cooked outdoors at the grill and although I haven't been swimming (it's still too cold for me) Napo and Awki have enjoyed the pool!
Soon we will be putting in the tile around the pool. We plan to have the tile be the kind that has the natural look of stone to complement the surroundings.
Next, we'll be painting the outdoor bar and kitchen area and finishing up tile work in the dining area under the green canopy. The walls will be white with touches of Mediterranean blue. And the yoga/community room will get two new murals, both Ecuadorian ancestral wisdom motifs that serve to open the conversation around the spirituality of this culture.
We discovered Workaway, the world's leading community for volunteering, working and cultural exchange. We now have had several couples come and stay with us, sharing the beauty of our area and helping us with painting, maintenance, gardening and more. They have come from Colombia, Israel, England, USA, France and the Faroe Islands.
Social Entrepreneurship and Community Service
We recently attended a celebration of reading, Yo Leo, at our nearby school. The schoolchildren performed skits based on fairy tales and read poetry. We are donating 60 goody bags for Christmas so each child will receive a gift. The school is in need of more supplies (we brought many supplies with us after our last visit to the USA) and the classrooms need some upgrades. If you can spare five or ten dollars, please consider a donation for the holidays. Money goes far here so every single bit helps.
We are also helping some young men start a surfing school here in Rio Chico. Our beach has great waves, including the one they call La Ola Perfecta (the perfect wave) which is also the name of their school. I'm teaching them English and tourism and basic business principles so they can soon launch their school. Loving the entrepreneurial spirit.
Again, please consider a donation. They could use some surf boards, signs and more for their small business. Each dollar goes to helping the economy and well being of our community.
Next month I'll be taking all new photos of our casitas and the property. Follow us on Facebook to see our progress as things keep getting better.
And next year I'll be redesigning the website and a new logo. Check out the potential logos we're considering HERE and vote on your favorite.
The casitas and mini suites are available for short and longer term rentals and we are inviting groups to come after January 2018. So whether you come on your own or with a group, we're happy to host you and share our Convivencia philosophy with you, providing an authentic Ecuadorian experience. If you're wondering why you should come, check out my 15 Reasons To Come to Quinta Oasis. Our rates will increase next Spring so book now to hold the low rate!
Quinta Oasis is ideal for the independent traveler who wants to leave the chaos of the world behind, explore a new culture, easily travel up and down the coast of Ecuador and mostly, who wants a real experience - no tour buses, groups of people or loud nights in town.
We're known for our tranquility but don't mistake it for boring! Way too much to do and explore that is off the beaten path. You won't find these unique experiences (hiking, waterfalls, howler monkeys, diving, fishing, cooking with the abuelas, and now surfing with locals) on the internet.
Shhh! It will be our secret!
Finally, thank you. Thank you for supporting us in so many ways. Quinta Oasis is and always be a work in progress. We've learned that we are growing and evolving on so many levels with each new brick, plant and visitor.
As you support us you help us support this small community on the coast of Ecuador. This holiday season we are giving thanks every day for all the blessings we experience, and you are one of those blessings.
We are ready for you so come visit soon!
Scenes and views of and from our property. Come experience it yourself!
